It's All B.S.: The Building Science Your Clients Think You Know!
One of the keys to successful green building and remodeling is understanding Building Science - how all the components of a building work and how they affect the movement of heat, air, and moisture is critical to a successful project. Design and construction decisions that are made without considering the Building Science involved can lead to building failures ranging from minor to catastrophic. This seminar will include an overview of Building Science, materials and methods to consider and to avoid, and provide a good basis to begin a continuing study of the subject.
Speaker Carl Seville Carl Seville is a consultant, educator, and speaker on sustainability for the residential construction industry. Through his firm, Seville Consulting, he provides advice to homeowners and construction professionals to assist them in making their projects green. He recently published the first textbook on residential green building and blogs at greencurmudgeon.com. Carl will be signing copies of his new book and will have a limited number of books available for sale at the event. You can purchase your own copy at Amazon.com and have it signed. "I received Carl's textbook: Green Building a month or so back. I have read it through and I am going to adopt it for use in my Graduate Level IET 590 Green Building and Sustainability course for this fall. It is a really nice book. Good information and I particularly like the inclusion of technical data and calculations. This makes the book work well for collegiate use. The quality of the book and pictures, data, diagrams, and charts are excellent." -- Bruce Frost, B.S.B.A., MBA, DDL/NAHB Professor Central Michigan University. The Mans Family has been serving the community since 1900, when Nicholas August Mans started the business selling coal and peat in the Downriver community of Trenton, Michigan. Today, the original business of selling coal expanded into lumber and then into all varieties of rough and finished building materials. Our two locations, Canton and Trenton, have also expanded into full service lumber yards, both with kitchen and bath design centers, a flooring store, millwork shop, installed product services, and a distribution center. Our vision is based on focusing our resources on our core business and the following belief: Our customers are the focus of everything we do. Mans Lumber and Millwork is proud to support and work with NEXTbuilding Forum. Besides lumber, a long standing renewable resource, we happily offer a large verity of sustainable building products; composite decking, energy efficient doors and windows, low impact engineered wood products, etc. The list goes on and we’d be happy to help you focus on items like this during you’re next project.
